About CA Youth Vs Big Oil

We are Californians between the ages of 15 to 26. Many of us live in areas impacted by the fossil fuel industry and the climate emergency it has generated in California and around the world.

Our Mission

We demand that Governor Gavin Newsom lay out a plan for California’s swift and just transition off fossil fuel production, starting with these 3 key actions:

  • STOP new fossil fuel projects: Lead climate action by ending new permits for oil and gas extraction, fossil fuel infrastructure, and other petrochemical projects in California.

  • DROP existing fossil fuel production: Set a national and global precedent by becoming the first oil-producing state to announce a phase-out of existing production in line with the Paris climate goals, with a just and equitable transition that protects workers, communities, and economies.

  • ROLL out setback limits: Protect public health by defending the recently established 3200-foot health and safety buffer zone between oil wells and homes, schools, and other sensitive sites.

How We Organize

The CA Youth Vs Big Oil coalition is led by our coordination team. The coordination team is responsible for maintaining alignment around our goals and demands to put pressure on Governor Newsom to phase out fossil fuels at the statewide level. The coordination team meets frequently to strategize about actions, campaigns, and ways to support partner organizations.

#CAYouthVsBigOil includes youth from across California, representing the following organizations:
